Who we are

hushmuse is a writing coach that helps you think more clearly through your writing. We are a small, independent product. When we say “we” or “hushmuse” in this policy, we mean the hushmuse product and its operator.

What we collect

We collect only what’s necessary to run the product:

• —Account information — your email address when you create an account. Nothing else is required.
• —Your writing — stored securely in your account so you can return to it across sessions. Only you can access it.
• —Session data — which pieces you've worked on and when, so hushmuse can maintain your writing history.
• —Usage data — basic, anonymised information about how the product is used (pages visited, features used). No personal identifiers attached.

We do not collect payment information directly — this is handled by our payment processor if and when you subscribe to a paid plan.

Your writing is private

This is the most important thing we can tell you:

• —We never read your writing. — No human at hushmuse reads your drafts, notes, or sessions.
• —We never sell your writing. — Your words are not a product we monetise in any way.
• —We never use your writing to train AI models. — When your writing is passed to our AI provider to generate coaching feedback, it is not retained or used for training purposes. We have confirmed this with our AI provider's terms of service.
• —Your writing belongs to you. — hushmuse makes no claim on anything you create in the editor. Ever.

How we use your data

We use the data we collect for three purposes only:

• —To run the product — storing your writing, maintaining your account, delivering coaching feedback.
• —To improve the product — anonymised usage patterns help us understand what's working and what isn't. No personal data is involved in this analysis.
• —To communicate with you — if you've opted in, we may send product updates or writing-related content. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not use your data for advertising. hushmuse does not run ads and does not share your data with advertisers.

How we store your data

Your writing and account data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted database provider with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.

We take reasonable technical precautions to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your writing with the same care we’d want our own writing treated.

Third parties

hushmuse uses a small number of third-party services to operate:

• —Anthropic — our AI provider. Your writing is sent to Anthropic's API to generate coaching feedback. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models.
• —Supabase — our database provider. Your writing and account data is stored here.
• —Vercel — our hosting provider. They host the hushmuse application.

We do not sell data to any third party. We do not share your personal data with anyone except as described above to operate the product.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• —Access all data hushmuse holds about you
• —Export your writing at any time in plain text format
• —Delete your account and all associated data permanently
• —Correct any inaccurate account information
• —Opt out of any non-essential communications

Cookies

hushmuse uses only essential cookies necessary to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

Children

hushmuse is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you by email and update the date at the top of this page. We will never make changes that reduce your privacy rights without explicit notice.
